iphone 5 delay leads to Android’s gain
Apple fans were desperately looking forward for the next iphone i.e. iphone 5 to get launched at WWDC but it didn’t appear in the conference held in San Francisco on June 6. There is no doubt that this delay in the launch of iphone 5 will be Android’s gain. The Galaxy S2 running Android has yet to see a U.S release and has been rumored to appear in July.
As consumers want a Smartphone that could offer a more innovative technology than iphone 4, something that Apple is unable to offer at the moment can make consumers to move towards Galaxy S2, which will lead to the decrease in sales of the Apple’s next generation iphone.
There is no doubt in the popularity of the Galaxy S2 which has already been released in UK and quite surprisingly has beaten up the sales against the iphone 4. It has also been pointed out by OSM’s Maddy Rowe that
if the Galaxy S2 does in fact resemble the next iphone, then it may also effect the sales of iphone 5.
The delay in the release of iphone 5 could make more and more users fall into the temptation of buying an Android Smartphone instead of waiting for the Apple’s next generation Smartphone to hit the store shelves.
Android’s new Smartphone are hitting the stores at a rapid speed. T-Mobile also announced the Android based HTC sensation 4G, Gravity Smart and Samsung Exhibit in quick succession. The HTC Sensation will be released on June 15 while the other two handsets are rumored to be coming this month but the date is not finalized yet.
DigiTimes reported last week that Apple iphone’s growth in the US market will be reduced by the expansion of Android-based handsets.
“With more Android-based devices hitting store shelves in the second half of 2011, the Google Smartphone OS will further widen its gap with iOS thanks to its more complete ecosystem”
This was further supported by Nielsen Survey which states:
Google’s Android operating system (OS) is the most popular among mobile operating systems(capturing 36% of US market) and will leave Apple’s iOS(Capturing only 26% of US market) far behind.
There are many handsets lined up to launch this year which includes Sprint’s HTC Evo 3D, the Motorola XPRT and the Motorola Titanium. Reports suggest that a Smartphone similar to the HTC Evo 3D has appeared in one HTC developer website and it is reported that the phone had two cameras.
Many rumors have been raised about the iphone 5 till now and if they are to be believed then iphone 5 will be having features like 8 mega pixel camera, edge-to-edge display, NFC capabilities. It has also been rumored that iphone 5 will sport ARM Cortex-A9 processor and could offer GSM and CDMA compatibility as well.
Well rumors are not quite enough to trump the android devices. It has been said that most of these rumored iphone 5 features are already sported by Android OS-based devices.
Apple should at least provide a pointer to the release of iphone 5, so that iphone 5 fans will know how long they should wait for the device to come.
